The Doors Plan 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of Debut LP #thedoors

b35498d380a3366caee15c05f4acecf91967 was one of the best years of Rock and Roll History. In February Jefferson Airplane released their sophomore album, ‘Surrealistic Pillow’ featuring the debut of new vocalist Grace Slick, The Beatles released their masterpiece Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in June, and to start the year The Doors released their self title debut on January 4th. Fifty years ago today and appropriately it’s “Day Of The Doors” In Los Angeles today. Founding Doors members John Densmore and Robby Krieger as will family members of the late Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison.

If you are serious about music, if you want to dig deep this album is required listening. The project featured not only two big hits that have more than stood the test of time with “Break On Through (To the Other Side),””Light My Fire” but amazingly there was no fat on this one but there was variety. Morrison’s groovy gloominess was spread over rock, blues, classical, jazz, and poetry.

With over 20 million sales for the album the band will release THE DOORS: 50TH ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION. This 3CD/LP set will be available on March 31 for a list price of $64.98.

I was only seven when this album was released and I thought back then that Morrison sounded like a crooner. He could have been but I’m glad he wasn’t.

The 50th anniversary edition will feature a hardcover book and a remastered version of the album’s original stereo mix for the first time in nearly 30 years, also an LP of the mono mix. The third disc features live performance from The Matrix in San Francisco recorded just weeks after The Doors was released. – by John Beaudin
