Phil Rudd Talks About His Old AC/DC Bandmates and His New Solo Tour

459576246-630x420Our buddy Eamon O’Neill of Eon Music talked to the drummer exclusively about his old band and AC/DC possibilities.

First has he talked to the other boys in the band? Rudd says, “Yes, I have, I’ve had contact with the guys and the crew. I’ve heard from Brian. I spoke to Brian a couple of days ago. We were talking about cars and how f#@kn’ useless he is; how much quicker I am than him! He’s doing all right.”

Even though Rudd only released his first solo album “Head Job” in 2014 he’d been thinking about it since 1985, adding, “Yeah. I ended up building a studio, because I’m very musical. I’m not really a sort of a highfalutin’ musician, but I am a sort of a ground level kind of achiever.”

Rudd left AC/DC for the second time in 2015 after some serious charges including attempting to procure a murder, threatening to kill, possession of methamphetamine and possession of cannabis, following a police raid on his home. Even though he played on the bands most recent album, ‘Rock or Bust’ all the legal hassles lead to him leaving and being replaced with Chris Slade who had been with AC/DC from 1989 to 1994. In the end

Remember how Angus Young said that, “Phil created his own situation. It’s a hard thing to say about the guy. He’s a great drummer, and he’s done a lot of stuff for us. But he seems to have let himself go. He’s not the Phil we’ve known from the past.” Well, Phil agrees now saying, “it’s called ‘shooting yourself in the foot’, young man; I f#@kn’ did it, mate, and I did it well. I’m sort of a little bit restricted on traveling around like I’m used to, but I’m coping with that, and I’m not done yet!”

Rudd talked about doing Bonfest -The international Bon Scott Festival who was AC/DC’s lead singer until February1980 when he died of Pulmonary aspiration after a hard night of drinking. He says they will do a tune from the last Scott album, ‘Highway to Hell’ -‘Shot Down In Flames.’

Rudd also added he plans on doing another solo album. – by John Beaudin
