Beyonce Leads Nominations for the 59th Annual Grammy Awards VIDEO REPORT #GrammyNominations

landscape_nrm_1430565303-beyonce_at_the_brit_awardsThe singer received nine nominations followed by Drake, Rihanna, and Kanye West with eight apiece and Chance the Rapper with seven.

FYI Beyonce did not make history today with her 9 added to the previous 53 giving her a grand total of 62 nominations. She was already the most nominated female artist before today. Dolly Parton is second with 47. Beyonce however is tied with composer John Williams in fifth place with for most nominations by any artist. Quincy Jones has the most at 79.

Beyonce has won 20 Grammys in her career and she would need 8 wins to beat the leading female winner Alison Krauss who has won 27.

Beyonce will be competing with Adele however in the top 3 categories including ‘Album,’ ‘Record,’ and ‘Song of the Year.’ Beyonce’s “Lemonade’ has sold one million copies in the U.S. in comparison to Adele’s “25” which is sitting at ten million in sales.

Remember the outrage last year that’s Adele wasn’t nominated for anything? Well ’25’ was not eligible yet since the Grammy’s cuts off the last few months of the calendar year for any albums considered. So once year later she received five nods.

Even though late great singer David Bowie received 4 nominations for ‘Blackstar’ it was snubbed in the ‘Album of the Year’ category. The title track did get a nod for ‘Best Rock Performance’ and ‘Best Rock Song.’ Bowie was also nominate for ‘Best Alternative Music Album’ and ‘Best Engineered Album, Non-classical.’ Rolling Stone magazine called the album, “Bowie’s best anti-pop masterpiece since the Seventies”

Best new artist nominations were Kelsea Ballerini, The Chainsmokers, Chance The Rapper, Maren Morris, Anderson Paak.

The awards will be handed out on Feb. 12, 2017 live on CBS.
