The Honeymooners’ Coming Back To Network TV: Full Report #honeymooners

alice_ralphThe classic 1950’s TV sitcom is getting a reboot with a modern touch. CBS has announced that Muppets’ alum Bob Kushell will be writing the script for at least the pilot episode. He’ll also be Executive Producer.

So far the network has not said much about the dynamic of the show. The original Honeymooners, which was rated #2 in the U.S. at it’s prime, starred Jackie Gleason (as Ralph Kramden), Audrey Meadows (Alice), Art Carney (Ed) and Joyce Randolph (Trixie). This new version will also have two close couples but one of the pairs remarries after divorcing four years earlier.

There was a flop film version that came out in 2005 starring Cedric the Entertainer, Gabrielle Union, Mike Epps and Regina Hall but maybe this one is just meant as a sitcom?

The Flintstones were inspired by The Honeymooners.

Rebooting sitcoms is big business these days with CBS bringing back ‘The Odd Couple,’ Netflix will debute a new version of Norman Lear’s sitcom classic ‘One Day at a Time’ in January. Also in the works reboots of Car Wash, Enemy of the State, Dynasty, War of the Worlds, Magnum P.I., The Lost Boys, Varsity Blues and loads of others. – by John Beaudin
